Austin, Texas ? Kansas University’s Lindsay Vollmer recorded personal-bests in two events and led the javelin portion of the heptathlon as the Jayhawks kicked off the Texas Relays on Wednesday.

The two-day multisport event concluded Thursday, with Vollmer –a freshman — placing seventh overall with a career-high 5,323 points, the second-highest point total in KU history.

KU’s Rebecca Neville placed 14th overall with a score of 5,072.

Kansas’ Alex Bishop cleared 17 feet, 41/2 inches to earn a first-place tie with LSU’s Thomas Reinecke in the pole vault. That vault moved Bishop into the top 10 in the NCAA rankings.

The Jayhawks’ women’s 4X800 relay team of Shayla Wilson, Rebeka Stowe, Maddy Rich and Cori Christensen placed fifth in 8:52.25, the third-fastest time in school history.

On the men’s side, Brendan Soucie, Donny Wasinger, Dalen Fink and Josh Munsch combined for a 3,200-meter time of 7:40.13 to finish 13th.

And Austin Bussing placed second in the B-race of the men’s 1,500 in 3:54.13, and Kathleen Thompson was seventh in the women’s B 1,500 in 4:37.20.

Evan Landes placed 10th in the men’s 5,000 in 14:58.39.
