The United Way Roger Hill Volunteer Center is looking for volunteers for its annual Day of Caring event on April 21.

Shannon Reid, volunteer coordinator at the center, said about 330 volunteers are needed for the 26 projects posted online at volunteerdouglascounty.org.

The annual event is one of the center’s two annual communitywide volunteering events; the other is the nationwide Make a Difference Day in October, Reid said.

Projects include things like spring cleaning at the Broken Arrow School butterfly garden, cleanup at Clinton Lake and shelving books at the Lawrence Public Library.

A kickoff breakfast is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at the Castle Tea Room, 1307 Mass. T-shirts will be available for volunteers.

The event can be good for volunteers who want to give back to their community but may not have the time to volunteer on a regular basis, Reid said.

Typically, the event draws a mixture of families, individuals and local businesses that want to help out, Reid said.

“The hope for us is that people get the volunteer bug,” and choose to get more involved with an organization that pulls at them, she said.
