• Van Go Inc. is looking for volunteers for its summer Jobs in the Arts Make Sense, or JAMS, session, which runs from May 29 to June 19. JAMS is an arts-based youth employment program for at-risk teens, 14 to 18 years old. This “earn while you learn” job training operates year-round, hiring teens to make public works of art that are sold in the community. The JAMS program uses art as a tool to give troubled teens a job, real world skills and the opportunity to succeed. Currently, volunteers with painting skills are needed to help in the summer “benchmark” session, in which each teen will be assigned a bench client, and design and paint a bench for the client’s business or home. The JAMS work schedule is 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Volunteers must be able to commit to at least a half day once a week, on the same day of the week. All volunteers must attend a mandatory three-hour training that will take place before the beginning of the session. For more information, contact Lindsey Ritscher at 785-842-3797 or lindsey@van-go.org.

• Just Food is seeking volunteers who can help with a monthlong food drive at local grocery stores in May. Just Food needs to stock up on foods for the summer months, when the demand increases and donations decrease. Information and collection tables are scheduled to be set up at all Lawrence grocery stores from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each Saturday in May. Several volunteers are needed to staff these tables throughout the community. Volunteers can sign up for just one two- to four-hour shift, or help out each week of the month. If you’re interested in signing up for a shift, call 785-856-7030 to put your name on a list of people to be contacted in April for scheduling.
