From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for March 26, 1972:

• The morning temperature had dropped to just below 32 degrees on a recent morning, but there was no resulting frost kill, according to Earl Van Meter, Douglas County Extension director. He cautioned, however, that in a few more weeks’ time, even a light frost such as this could pose a threat to local fruit buds and other tender plants.
• More than 100 people had applied for membership in the Douglas County Historical Society during the group’s special display this week. The society recently had obtained title to the old Watkins Bank Building, and its members were intending to work with Kansas University’s Museum of Art and Museum of Natural History to establish a historical museum there. Memberships and other contributions were being encouraged, said society president Charles Stough.
