Police early Wednesday arrested a 20-year-old Anadarko, Okla., man who was accused of driving away from a traffic stop, striking another vehicle and then running from police on foot.

Kim Murphree, a Lawrence police spokeswoman, said the incident began when officers were called at 3:35 a.m. to a fight at the Presto station, 602 W. Ninth St. An officer noticed a man standing next to the building. Another man was in a vehicle, and he started to drive away. The officer tried to stop the vehicle, but the suspect did not stop. Near Sixth and Ohio streets, the vehicle struck a white Jeep Liberty.

The driver ran from police who arrested the driver, Ryan James Kingfisher, near a parking lot in the 700 block of Vermont Street. Capt. Paul Fellers said an officer used a Taser to subdue Kingfisher.

According to Douglas County Jail records, Kingfisher was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct, interfering with duties of an officer, attempting to elude police, DUI, tampering with an ignition interlock device, failing to report an accident, driving while suspended and driving without proof of insurance. He was released on $1,300 bond and given notice to appear in municipal court April 23.
