How to Help: Expert needed to restore old Mac computers

Penn House, a program of Ballard Community Services, is in need of a volunteer who has experience with computer repair, specifically with Macs. Several computers have been donated to Penn House but need some repair work before they can be put to use. Penn House is open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, so anyone who can help repair the Mac computers would need to be available within those hours. For more details and to help out, contact Matt Ritscher at 785-842-0440 or matt.ritscher@gmail.com.

Other immediate needs

• Kansas Relays need volunteer support again this year. The KU Track and Field office is busy with preparations for the 85th edition of the Kansas Relays, April 18-21. It takes many volunteers to put on the relays and help continue this great Kansas tradition. The schedule includes the decathlon and heptathlon on Wednesday and Thursday, the hammer throw Thursday afternoon, the distance carnival Thursday night, and all other events on Friday and Saturday. It is a great chance to see some Olympic-caliber athletes in action as they gear up for the 2012 Summer Olympics, along with great high school and collegiate competition. No experience is required, and all volunteers will receive a Kansas Relays shirt to wear and have meals provided while working the event. If you are interested in putting in a few hours, you can fill out the information online at http://bit.ly/el4V5V, or contact Debbie Luman at 785-864-3486 or dluman@ku.edu.

• Independence Inc. is looking for front desk volunteers who can answer phones, transfer calls and greet visitors. Some current volunteers will be leaving the agency by May, so people are desperately needed to fill the 8 a.m. to noon shift on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. For more details about the position, contact Stacey Hunter-Schwartz at 785-841-0333, ext. 104 or shschwartz@independenceinc.org.

• Sunflower School is looking for volunteers to help with its carnival April 28.
