From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for March 16, 1972:

• Earlier this week, President Nixon had urged the halt of all forced busing in the U.S., but this would have no effect on the Lawrence School District, said Bill Womack, director of maintenance and operations. Womack said that Lawrence currently had no forced busing and that “Lawrence is integrating in the right way … our people are learning to live together in neighborhoods.”
• The University of Kansas Theatre was presenting, on alternating nights, Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” and Tom Stoppard’s “Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead.” Movies showing in Lawrence this weekend included “The Honkers,” “Such Good Friends,” “Captain Milkshake,” “Summer of ’42,” “The Hospital,” and John Wayne in “The Cowboys.” Sandy’s Hamburgers at 2120 West 9th was celebrating St. Patrick’s Day this weekend by serving the “Murphy’s Masterpiece” burger for 37 cents and the beverage “Dublin Dew” for five cents.
