From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for March 6, 1972:

• Ground had been broken for the administrative buildings at the future Clinton Lake. The facilities were expected to be completed in about nine months, according to the project supervisor. The administrative headquarters were to be located near the northeast corner of the reservoir, directly south of the proposed Clinton Parkway’s intersection with the Corps’ principal access road from U.S. 40. Wilson Constructors Inc., Salina, had been awarded a $189,497 contract in December for the Corps offices, a parking area, an overlook, group shelter and sewer and utility systems.
• The Lawrence City Commission was scheduled to consider an ordinance to limit motorized motorized vehicles in city parks. The proposed ordinance was intended mainly to keep motorcycles and mini-bikes out of parks except in designated roadways or parking areas. Assistant City Manager Dennis Kallsen said that motorized vehicles had been “damaging to our parks,” especially at the Horton sports complex.
