A panel of three area foodies will taste test homemade recipes Sunday as they judge the five finalists in the Lawrence Public Library’s Cranberry Creations contest. The judging will take place at 3 p.m. at the library, 707 Vt.

Five area residents submitted recipes for a chance to see National Public Radio personality Susan Stamberg, who is speaking March 13 at the Lied Center for a library benefit. The grand prize includes two VIP tickets to the event and a special “Susan Stambag” prize package. The runners-up each receive two tickets to the event. Stamberg is known among NPR listeners for sharing a family recipe for cranberry relish made famous by its bright pink color. Stamberg describes it as a dish that “sounds terrible but tastes terrific.”

The event’s judges are Charles Ferruza, food critic for The Pitch; Megan Stuke, who writes the “Flying Fork” blog for the Journal-World and Lawrence.com; and Ken Warren, Kitchen Boss Man at Hy-Vee in Topeka.

The recipe finalists — and their cranberry creations — are Lynne Chase, Lawrence, honey cranberry bread; Mary Getter, Lawrence, cranberry cake with hot butter sauce; Judy Keller, Lawrence, cranberry nut tart; Emily Mueller, Lawrence, cranberry shortbread cake; and Karen Whipple, Baldwin City, cranberry and orange cream scones.
