2 people hospitalized after early-morning motorcycle crash in Lawrence

Two people were injured, one critically, early Friday after a motorcycle accident near the intersection of Fourth Street and McDonald Drive.

Kim Murphree, a Lawrence police spokeswoman, said the driver, John Sauer, 29, of Lawrence, told officers he attempted to stop too quickly, causing the motorcycle to crash while heading west on Fourth Street. Police and medics were called to the scene at 1:40 a.m. Friday.

Sauer was taken via ambulance to Stormont-Vail Regional Medical Center in Topeka, and his passenger, Elizabeth Stark, 44, of Lawrence, was taken by ambulance to Kansas University Hospital in Kansas City, Kan. Stark was in critical condition when she was taken to the hospital, Murphree said.
