Lawrence Community Shelter, 214 W. 10th St., is looking for more community members to join its dedicated volunteer force. Volunteer shifts are available from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. every day of the week. Volunteers will serve dinner, perform administrative tasks and spend time with residents. Orientations are conducted at 8 p.m. every Wednesday night; an RSVP is required as space is limited. Alternative orientation times and other volunteer opportunities are available upon request. Immediate needs

• Trinity In-Home Care is seeking new volunteers for its Friendly Visitors Program. Currently, there are people waiting for a Friendly Visitor. Trinity’s Friendly Visitors Program matches volunteers and clients with similar interests for an optimal companionship experience. Generally, the program is designed to provide one to two hours a week of companionship to any individual, 18 years of age or older. Volunteers help to improve the quality of life of others by helping to alleviate loneliness and isolation. Call Bailey Warren at 785-842-3159 or email HRintern@tihc.org if you are interested.

• Brandon Woods is looking for a volunteer with a basic working knowledge of home computer systems who can help residents become more acquainted with using a computer. The person should have patience and a willingness to help individuals who have little to no experience with a computer. The volunteer needs to be available from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on the first and third Tuesday of each week. The residents would be grateful for the help in allowing them to communicate with relatives and friends. Volunteers must be 18 or older and should contact Kim Blocher, activity director, at 785-760-0758 or 785-838-8000.

• Recovery And Hope Network, or RAHN, is in need of volunteers to help run the Kids’ Booth at the Fourth of July “Taste of Lawrence” in Watson Park. RAHN serves more than 300 Douglas County community members actively working on recovery from mental illness and does so on a shoestring budget. Running the Kids’ Booth at this community event is one of RAHN’s fundraisers for the year and requires volunteer support. Volunteers will be running activities like a duck toss, duck races and more. Additionally, RAHN is in search of any volunteers who can help make balloon animals and hats for the kids. Volunteers are needed for two-hour shifts from 3 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. July 4. • The Lawrence-Douglas County Housing Authority is in need of 10 volunteers for its upcoming Zombie Walk, a ZOMBIE Health Initiative event taking place July 28 at the Barbara Huppee Community Facility, 1600 Haskell Ave. No. 150. The ZOMBIE Health Initiative addresses six identified health targets — zoning, as in healthy spaces, outside activity, movement of and body image, ingredients for meals, and exercise. The project seeks to introduce programming for preventing and reducing childhood obesity in youths whose families receive housing assistance. The July 28 event is in need of volunteers to help with setup, face painting, accompanying youths on the walking route, and cleanup. Volunteers will need to register before the walk and can obtain a volunteer form by picking one up in person, requesting that one be emailed, or by visiting ldcha.org/rso/default.htm.
