Forty-nine Kansas University students recently received more than 75 awards and scholarships totaling more than $119,000 given by the department of theater during the annual Stage Supper. Area students are listed below.

Tatyana Wilds, of Lawrence, a graduate in scenography, earned a David E. Blackwell Scholarship.

Laura Brooke Williams, of Lawrence, earned a Bachelor of General Studies with an emphasis on theater and a Laura Louise Pryor Memorial Award.

Whitley Jackson, of Lawrence, a May 2012 Kansas State University graduate with a bachelor’s in biology and Spanish-Hispanic studies, received the H. Henley Haymaker Outstanding Senior Award from K-State’s Division of Biology.

Ottawa University has announced Dean’s List and Honor Roll recipients for the spring semester. Requirements for the Dean’s List include being a full-time student, having earned a minimum of 24 semester hours over the preceding two semesters and having a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5. Requirements for the Dean’s Honor Roll include being a full-time student, having earned at least 12 semester hours during the preceding semester and maintaining a GPA of at least 3.5.

Nathaniel Demby, of Lawrence, a senior in general business administration at Kansas State University, was inducted into the Pinnacle Honor Society May 1 at Kansas State University. The society is for nontraditional students. To be eligible, students must have achieved a GPA of 3.0 or higher, be of at least junior standing and have demonstrated a record of excellence in leadership, scholarship and service.

Haley Fischer, of Lawrence, an advertising and graphic design major at Columbus College of Art & Design in Ohio, has been named to the President’s List. To qualify, students must have a GPA of 3.4 or higher.

Ashlyn E. Evans, a student at Lawrence’s Free State High School, was selected to attend the 68th annual session of Sunflower Girls State June 3-8 on the Kansas University campus.

Two students from Lawrence attending Truman State University in Kirksville, Mo., have been named to the Spring 2012 Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs’ List. To qualify, a student must attain a semester GPA of 3.50-3.99.

The students are Peter John Esau, in exercise science, and Alexander Joseph Thompson, in business administration, Spanish.

The following Lawrence residents were recognized for academic achievement at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn. To qualify, students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.60 or higher: Katie Burk, performance and music education; Maggie Burk, performance and music education; and Clara Kundin, theater.

Marine Corps Pfc. Nathan K. Liska, a 2011 graduate of Lawrence High School, recently graduated from the Marine Corps Basic Combat Engineer Course at Camp Lejeune, N. C. During the five-week course, Liska received instruction in the fundamentals of engineering support for combat units, including the procedures for building and repairing bridges, roads and field fortifications. Liska also received training on demolition concepts, land mine warfare and camouflage techniques.

Jessica Brumm, a Baldwin High School and Kansas University alumnus, recently graduated from Texas Wesleyan School of Law in Fort Worth, Texas. She recently received passing results from the February Texas bar exam and hopes to practice in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
