Area residents who want longer hours for the city’s public transportation system or more sidewalks for pedestrians or wider roads to traverse the city have three more opportunities to weigh in on a new countywide transportation plan.

The Lawrence-Douglas County Metropolitan Planning Organization is hosting three more public listening sessions to get ideas for Transportation 2040, a plan designed to predict transportation needs for the county for the next 30 years. The meetings are conducted in an open-house style where individuals can speak one-on-one with a transportation planner about ideas or suggestions.

“Now is the time to talk to us about your transportation needs and your ideas for improving our transportation system,” said Todd Girdler, senior transportation planner. “We really want to hear from you about how we can make this system the best we can.”

Transportation planners will host meetings from:

• 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the Lawrence Public Library, 707 Vt.

• 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Lawrence City Hall, 6 E. Sixth St.

• 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Eudora City Hall.

Planners expect to have a draft version of the transportation plan completed this fall, and a final version will brought forward for approval by early 2013.
