Topeka man injured in early morning Turnpike crash

A 58-year-old Topeka man was injured in an accident Thursday morning on the Kansas Turnpike near the Lecompton interchange when he swerved to miss a deer.

According to a Kansas Turnpike Authority report, Dennis K. Guist swerved his 1997 Chrysler Cirrus about 4:55 a.m., and his vehicle struck the barrier wall.

The crash occurred in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 70. Guist was wearing a seat belt. A dispatcher said medics treated Guist at the scene, but he was not taken to a hospital.
