Hutchinson man gets 2 years for Obama threat

? A Hutchinson man has been sentenced to two years in federal prison for threatening the president of the United States, U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said in a news release Monday.

Michael Scott Ramsey, 27, of Hutchinson, pleaded guilty in March to one count of threatening the president. In his plea, Ramsey admitted that on July 1, 2009, he wrote two letters that were delivered to the staff of Larned State Hospital in which he threatened to kill the president. In the first letter, he said “I am going to kill Barrack (sic) Obama … and this is Michael Ramsey telling you this.” In the second letter, Ramsey wrote, “I’ll take his life.”

In the fall of 2011, Ramsey underwent an evaluation at the Federal Bureau of Prisons Metropolitan Detention Center in Los Angeles. The evaluating team concluded there was no objective evidence that Ramsey suffered from a mental disorder or condition that rendered him unable to appreciate the wrongfulness of his actions
