Stilwell ? Three Lawrence High football players represented the Lions one last time in the 2012 Country Mart Kansas vs. Missouri All Star Game Thursday at Blue Valley High.

Unfortunately for kicker Anthony Rosen, offensive tackle Sean Thomas, defensive back Anthony Buffalomeat and the rest of the Kansas team, Missouri claimed victory in the all-star showcase, 19-7.

“They are a joy,” Lawrence coach Dirk Wedd said of his former Lions. “They’re really good football players, but they are even better kids, and that makes coaching easy and fun.”

Wedd credited Rosen, Buffalomeat and Thomas for leading the Lions to a record of 6-4 in 2011 and helping Lawrence return to the state playoffs.

“Anthony Buffalomeat started both ways as a sophomore, and Sean, of course, has started the last two years,” Wedd said. “They are a huge part of the success we had, and more importantly they bring a little something that you are always looking for in toughness and effort.”

Buffalomeat played every other series on defense Thursday, recording two tackles and breaking up one passing play.

“It is a great honor and great experience because with all these other all stars, it is awesome,” Buffalomeat said. “All of the great coaches and just a week and a half of practice of getting to know everyone … it was a good time.”

Buffalomeat will be moving on to play at Emporia State University in the fall.

Thomas was the team captain for the Lions in 2011, playing on the offensive and defensive lines. He will play for Butler County Community College.

“(Butler has) high expectations,” Thomas said. “They’ve been national champions for a while now. I just want to keep building on their dynasty.”

Rosen booted his two kickoffs Thursday through the end zone for touchbacks and made his only extra-point attempt.

“It was awesome,” Rosen said. “I’ve never did anything like (playing in an all-star game) before. It was something really special to me and something that I will remember for the rest of my life, I guess.”

He will kick for 2011 NCAA Division II Champion Pittsburg State University next season.

Rosen’s extra point gave Kansas its only lead after Teddy Colbert of Olathe South returned a kickoff 88 yards for a touchdown.

While Lee’s Summit (Mo.) North’s Will Harrington only completed two of his seven passes, he had two quarterback sneaks for touchdowns and totaled 97 yards of rushing against the Kansas defense to earn Offensive Player of the Game honors.
