Aquahawks openings: The Lawrence Aquahawks swimming team is always accepting new members. The Aquahawks are a year-round USA Swimming-sponsored competitive swim team. The Aquahawks offer a swim lesson program and competitive swim team for all ages. The Aquahawks are coached by professional coaches with weekly practices geared toward a variety of skill levels. FUNdamental Softball: Learn the proper mechanics and techniques to playing softball. Youth football camp: The Lawrence/Free State youth football camp will be Monday, June 25 through Wednesday, June 27 at Lawrence High School. The camp is for children in third through eighth grades. Lyme Disease 5K: The second-annual Hope for Healing Lyme Disease 5K run and walk will be at 6 p.m., June 16, at the Lawrence Rotary Arboretum, south of the intersection of Wakarusa Drive and Kansas Highway 10. LHS scholarship golf tourney: The 13th Annual Lawrence Lions Alumni Association Scholarship Golf Tournament is at 8 a.m., June 16 at Alvamar Golf Course. Entry fee is $75 per golfer and includes golf, cart, prizes, and lunch. The tournament is NOT limited to LHS Alumni. LHS tennis summer workouts: The Lawrence High tennis team will have summer workouts for any players eligible to play for LHS in the 2012-13 school year. Workouts will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. every Tuesday and Thursday from June 5 through July 12 (with the exception of July 4 week) at LHS courts. Baker hoops camp: The Baker University basketball program will hold a camp June 25-28 in Baldwin City. The camp is for boys and girls in grades K-8. Soccer camps and league: Free State will hold soccer camps and a 6v6 league this summer. Girls camp will be June 25-29, and the youth camp will be from June 18-21. Running clinics: Good Form Running Clinics at Garry Gribble’s Running Sports (839 Massachusetts St) will be on June 19 from 6-7 p.m. This is a free clinic for anyone who wants to learn tips and techniques to improve your running efficiency. City golf championships: The 36-hole city golf championships will be held July 7-8 at Alvamar Golf Course and Alvamar Country Club. Entry forms are available at Alvamar, Lawrence Country Club and Eagle Bend and should be sent to LAGA, P.O. Box 1111, Lawrence, Kansas 66044. Entry fee is $125, and checks should be made payable to Lawrence Amateur Golf Assn. Competition will take place in men’s, women’s senior and super senior divisions. Anyone who is a resident or employed in Douglas County, a member at Alvamar, LCC, Jayhawk Golf Club of Eagle Bend men’s league, or any past PAGA event champion, is eligible.

Hughes wins again: Lawrence’s Dan Hughes claimed his third Dirty Kanza 200 title. Hughes, who also won the 200-plus-mile gravel road ride in and around Emporia in 2006 and in 2011, won this year’s race in an event-record 11 hours, 56 minutes, beating the four-year-old record of 11:58:32. The women’s overall winner was Rebecca Rusch of Ketchum, Idaho, who finished in 12:02, crushing the old women’s record of 14:49.

LHS fall sports meeting: The Lawrence High fall sports informational meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m., Aug. 5 in the LHS auditorium. Fall sports forms may be submitted at the meeting. Notaries will be available. The fall forms deadline is Aug 9.

Henrickson tourney: The eighth annual Bonnie Henrickson Golf Tournament will be Aug. 25 at Alvamar Country Club. Registration for the event is available for singles, pairs and foursomes. All proceeds from the tournament will go to Kansas University women’s basketball and the Lawrence Memorial Hospital Breast Center. The event includes a four-person scramble at 1 p.m., followed by a dinner and live and silent auctions at 6 p.m. Prizes will also be awarded for best four-women team, best four-man team, best four-person mixed team, longest drive, closest to the pin and hole-in-one. Reaney makes Trials: Lawrence native Emma Reaney has qualified to swim in four events at the upcoming U.S. Olympic Trials — the 100 breast, 200 breast, 200 individual medley and 400 individual medley. The Trials will be June 25-July 2 in Omaha, Neb.

Pizza ride: Join team GP VeloTek for the pizza ride. This easy, beginner-friendly bike ride for youth and their parents starts at Johnny’s North. Show time 6:15 p.m. and ride at 6:30 in June 18.
