City golf championships: The 36-hole city golf championships will be held July 7-8 at Alvamar Golf Course and Alvamar Country Club. Hughes wins again: Lawrence’s Dan Hughes claimed his third Dirty Kanza 200 title. Hughes, who also won the 200-plus-mile gravel road ride in and around Emporia in 2006 and in 2011, won this year’s race in an event-record 11 hours, 56 minutes, beating the four-year-old record of 11:58:32. The women’s overall winner was Rebecca Rusch of Ketchum, Idaho, who finished in 12:02, crushing the old women’s record of 14:49.
