Having cornered the market on the petulant teen/tween melodrama, ABC Family takes a crack at the multigenerational female bonding dramedy. And who better to create and produce it than Amy Sherman-Palladino, the force behind “Gilmore Girls”?

Much like “Girls,” ”Bunheads” (8 p.m.) features a not-so-young heroine who finds her groove only after a series of seemingly wrong life decisions. Trained in classic ballet, Michelle (Sutton Foster) was distracted by the money and glamour of Las Vegas and the life of a showgirl. Finding herself washed up in an entertainment world freshly supplied with younger and more limber flesh, she leaps at the chance to marry the kind stranger Hubbell Flowers (Alan Ruck) and settle down in the bucolic backwater of Paradise, Calif.

Only Paradise has trouble — in the form of Hubbell’s controlling and disapproving mother, Fanny (Kelly Bishop, “Gilmore Girls”).

Fortunately for Michelle, the imperious Fanny also runs a dance studio, giving Michelle plenty to do, as well as a steady supply of teenage dancers to mother and mentor while she navigates choppy waters with her new mother-in-law.

• Proof that some humor works well only in very short takes is the original “Annoying Orange” clip on YouTube, which runs a little over a minute. And that can seem about 40 seconds too long. The short film of an orange, speaking through horribly yellow teeth via crude visual effects, has been viewed nearly 110 million times. That’s amazing.

Not so amazing was the decision to turn this funny little clip into the prime-time “Annoying Orange” (7:30 p.m., Cartoon Network). In each installment of roughly 15 minutes — an eternity in YouTube time — our silly citrus hero will join his other fruity friends and toothy marshmallow character in parodies of film and television adventures. There’s also a human sidekick fruit vendor to move them around.

• If required, the Los Angeles Kings and New Jersey Devils meet in the 2012 Stanley Cup Finals (7 p.m., NBC). Otherwise, NBC will broadcast repeats of “America’s Got Talent” (7 p.m.), “American Ninja Warrior” (8 p.m.) and “Grimm” (9 p.m.).

• American fare on the menu on “Hell’s Kitchen” (7 p.m., Fox).

• Ground chuck sets the standard on “MasterChef” (8 p.m., Fox).
