Project LIVELY, a program of Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department, is in need of some volunteers to help out a couple of its senior clients. One woman needs a volunteer to trim her shrubs in her front yard; she lives in the Pinckney neighborhood. Another woman needs her gutters cleaned and also has dead plants in her backyard that need to be trimmed or cut down; she lives in the Centennial Park neighborhood. Immediate needs

• Lawrence Meals on Wheels is in desperate need of both weekly and substitute volunteer drivers to deliver meals to homebound community members. The agency is experiencing a shortage of volunteers for the summer and needs to fill the spots soon. Regular volunteers are sought to commit to at least one route per week, and substitute volunteers are needed to be on call for uncovered routes on any given day. Volunteers pick up meals for their route at 11:15 a.m. on their assigned day and should count on delivering meals for around one hour. To get signed up as a Meals on Wheels volunteer, call 830-8844.

• Lawrence Humane Society needs volunteers to help at its annual Mutt ‘n Strutt fundraiser. This year, it is in combination with Barkarusa Fest, and is being held at Pawsh Wash this Friday. Volunteers are needed to help set up and take down the booths and tables, in addition to working them during the event. There will be food, live music and tons of dogs. Help is needed from 4 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., and volunteers are asked to work at least three-hour shifts. Volunteers must be physically capable of setting up and taking down tables/booths, and helping to carry boxes. No previous experience or training is required; volunteers 11-15 years old may participate with adult supervision. • Lawrence Habitat for Humanity is looking for a volunteer site host for its Saturday construction build days. The site host would work every Saturday during a house build from 8:45 a.m. to 3 p.m. Duties for the volunteer site host include greeting and checking in volunteers, making sure water jugs are full at all times, making sure safety and first-aid equipment is easily accessible, refilling ice and picking up lunch when necessary.
