25 years ago: City, county advised to hurry up on trafficway plans

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for June 6, 1987:

  • After a recent meeting, local legislators announced that if Lawrence and Douglas County hoped to get state funding for a proposed Lawrence trafficway, they needed to agree on a project by early September. State funds of as much as $20 million were at stake for the planned roadway as part of a comprehensive highway program recommendation being put together by Gov. Mike Hayden.
  • Movies showing at Lawrence theaters this week included “Rumpelstiltskin” with Amy Irving, “Beverly Hills Cop II” with Eddie Murphy, “Harry and the Hendersons” with John Lithgow, and “The Untouchables” with Kevin Costner and Robert De Niro.
