Texas woman arrested on drug charges in Jefferson County

Jefferson County Sheriff’s officers and Kansas Bureau of Investigation agents arrested a 28-year-old El Paso, Texas, woman Monday on drug charges related to a search warrant served at a residence in a development near Perry Lake.

Sheriff Jeff Herrig said officers conducted the search warrant in connection with a KBI task force and seized drugs, cash and firearms. Herrig said the arrest occurred in 10000 block of Kaw Lane in rural Ozawkie, which is also in the Lakeshore Estates district.

The woman, who was at the residence Monday, was arrested on suspicion of possession of certain hallucinogenic drugs, use or possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia, acquiring proceeds from a large sale of a controlled substance and no drug tax stamp for a controlled substance.

Jefferson County Attorney Jason Belveal said Tuesday afternoon he expected to file formal charges in the case Wednesday. The Journal-World generally does not identify suspects unless they are formally charged.
