15-year-old girl in fair condition after suffering injuries while crossing street near swimming pool

A 15-year-old rural Lawrence girl was listed in fair condition Monday at a Kansas City, Kan., hospital where she’s recovering from injuries suffered in an accident last Wednesday outside the Lawrence Outdoor Aquatic Center, 747 Ky.

Bob Hallinan, a Kansas University Hospital spokesman, said Carrie L. Barr arrived at the hospital Wednesday, the day of the accident. Lawrence police said Barr first was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Sgt. Trent McKinley, a police spokesman, said Monday the accident report was not yet complete. Police said last week that preliminary information indicated Barr had exited a vehicle driven by her sister that stopped in the east lane on Kentucky Street. She went around the front of the vehicle to cross the street, presumably to go to the pool, and ran into a vehicle in the west lane. Police said Barr was crossing the street south of the crosswalk.
