Lawrence Walmart stores latest targets of false bomb threats

Lawrence police responded to two bomb threats directed at Lawrence Walmart stores just before 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

The Walmarts at 550 Congressional Drive and 3300 Iowa both reported threats within minutes of each other made by a male caller just before 2:30 a.m.

Police investigated, but the threats turned out to be false.

Similar false threats were made just before 4:30 a.m. toward a Walmart in Leavenworth.

These three threats come on the heels of a string of false threats made in Missouri and Oklahoma.

The Associated Press reported that stores in eight Missouri communities had received similar threats on Friday. A false bomb threat shut down a store in Claremore, Okla., on Wednesday.

As of 4 p.m. Sunday, the Lawrence Police Sgt. Randy Roberts reported that no further information was available.
