Woman flown to KU Medical Center after head-on collision

A 34-year-old woman was flown to the Kansas University Medical Center after a head-on collision in Franklin County late Friday night.

The woman was headed north on a southbound lane when she crashed into a semi tractor trailer. The accident occurred along Interstate 35 near Ottawa on mile marker 175, just after a rest area. Emergency workers responded within minutes, categorizing the woman’s condition as code red. Life Flight flew her from the scene for medical treatment.

“The road was blocked for several hours (afterward) so we could work the accident and clean up the oil,” said Lt. Curtis Hall.

The woman, who suffered a head injury, was the only one injured. The accident is still under investigation and more information will be added to this story as it is released.
