From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for July 22, 1972:
- Shoppers were sharing downtown space with construction workers today at the annual Lawrence Sidewalk Bazaar. Continued renovation work on the streets of the 800 and 900 blocks of Massachusetts did not deter throngs of merchants and customers engaging in the yearly mega-sale on sidewalks in front of stores. Merchants agreed that business was brisk, even before the start time of 8:00 a.m.
- An accident involving two 16-year-old boys was under investigation by Leavenworth County law enforcement. The two boys, believed to be runaways from Boys Town, Nebraska, had been driving a car stolen in Omaha when they had suffered minor injuries in a crash about three miles northwest of Tonganoxie.
