Don’t worry about where to park: City bus system is offering free rides Thursday for annual Downtown Lawrence Sidewalk Sale

Even transportation is getting marked down Thursday for the annual Downtown Lawrence Sidewalk Sale.

The Lawrence Transit System is waiving bus fares on all fixed routes for the sale — Routes 1, 3, 4, 6, 7, 10 and 11 all travel downtown. The T has regular service from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Besides a free ride, taking the bus means you don’t have to face traffic congestion or worry about parking, transit administrator Robert Nugent said in a prepared announcement.

“The Sidewalk Sale is a great time to try the T,” he said. “On a day that brings so many people downtown, riding the bus can be a real convenience.”

The sale runs from sunup to sundown, with some downtown shops planning to open as early as 5 a.m.

Throughout the day Thursday, Journal-World staffers will be Tweeting and blogging from the sale. Tune in at ljworld.com.
