Lawrence city commissioners on Tuesday approved a trio of events that are set to take place in August.

At a short afternoon meeting, commissioners approved the following:

• The use of certain downtown public right-of-ways for the annual Busker Fest from Aug. 24-26. Commissioners agreed to allow the festival that attracts a variety of street performers to close the 100 blocks of East Eighth Street and East 10th Street for much of the event. Both streets will be used for performance areas. The event also will be allowed to use the public sidewalk and public parking spaces in front of the U.S. Bank Tower at Ninth and Massachusetts streets.

• The closure of Vermont Street from Seventh Street to the entrance of the public parking lot adjacent to the Lawrence Public Library from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Aug. 2. The street closure will accommodate the Lawrence Public Library’s “Last Bash of Summer” event.

• A special event permit for the Lawrence Flea, a flea market slated to run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 4 at the southwest corner of Eighth and Pennsylvania streets. Commissioners approved the event on a 4-0 vote. Commissioner Aron Cromwell abstained from the vote because the owner of the lot used for the flea market is a client of Cromwell’s environmental consulting firm.
