From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Jan. 31, 1972:

During their next scheduled meeting, the Lawrence City Commission was to consider annexing 1,780 acres of land, almost three square miles, north of the city limits, including the old “Cameron Bluff” on the Kansas River where the Kansas Power and Light Co. plant was situated. According to City Manager Buford Watson, the commissioners had been “thinking about it for about three months, and the members feel it is a very vital part of our industrial development area.” The proposed annexation included all land south of the river and east of the section line road which extended north from the corner of Peterson Road and Kasold Drive. It was believed that KPL planned to strongly oppose the annexation proposal.
