Kansas City, Mo. — With a change in philosophy, Seabury Academy’s boys basketball team won at Pembroke Hill, 60-43, Wednesday night.

Seahawks coach Ashley Battles said the team did some soul-searching after a couple of rough outings and the players responded with a different approach in the road win.

“We’re looking for our shot, not my shot,” the coach said.

Instead of trying to beat teams by themselves, Battles explained, the Seahawks (3-7) worked as a team.

Thomas Diaz led Seabury with 22 points and Georgi Funtarov scored 20.

Part of what made the team’s approach different, though, was Khadre Lane. He finished with six points, but Battles said the sophomore was “by far” the Seahawks’ best player against Pembroke. The coach said Lane got the ball to the right people at the right time.

At 7 p.m. Friday, Seabury (3-7) will play at the University Academy tournament in Kansas City, Mo.
