• Grant Ryan has been promoted to senior vice president and commercial manager for the Lawrence market at Emprise Bank. Ryan joined the bank in October as a commercial lender and vice president. Ryan, a native of Clay Center, graduated in 1996 from Kansas State University with a bachelor of science degree in business administration. He has 16 years of banking experience, and he worked at United Bank and Trust of Clay Center and University National Bank in Lawrence before joining Emprise.

• Retired Lawrence police captain and detective Dan Affalter in January began a one-year term as president of Headquarters Counseling Center’s board of directors. Affalter in 2011 served as the board’s vice president. Former president Will Katz, director of the KU Small Business Development Center, was elected vice president. Jordan Urich, branch manager of KU Credit Union, takes over as treasurer. Chris Lazzarino, associate editor of Kansas Alumni magazine at the KU Alumni Association, will serve his second term as board secretary. Christine McGrew, of McGrew Real Estate, remains a board officer as immediate past president.

• Gina Halsey, national board certified in Oriental medicine, acupuncture and Chinese herbology, by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, has expanded her practice and relocated Gina Halsey Acupuncture to a larger suite in the same building, the Lawrence Medical Plaza, 1112 W. Sixth. Halsey formerly practiced and taught acupuncture in Los Angeles and served as board chair at Yo San University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Los Angeles. She has completed two advanced internships in China.
