Kansas senior guard Tyshawn Taylor has been named the Big 12’s co-player of the week, the conference announced Monday.

Taylor shared the honor with Baylor forward Perry Jones III. It is the third straight week that a KU player has won or shared the award.

Taylor, a Hoboken, N.J., native, averaged 21.5 points and 5.5 assists in KU’s two victories last week over Texas Tech and Iowa State.

The 6-foot-3 guard was best against ISU on Saturday, putting in a career-high 28 points — which included 22 in the second half — as the Jayhawks rallied from a 12-point, second-half deficit to defeat the Cyclones, 82-73.

KU players have won or shared conference player of the week honors in five of the award’s 10 weeks. Thomas Robinson was selected on Nov. 28, Dec. 12 and Jan. 2, while Travis Releford won the award on Jan. 9.

Drew will keep team on court for KU pregame video

Baylor coach Scott Drew said on the Big 12 coaches call Monday that the Bears would remain on the court for KU’s pre-game video and player introductions tonight.

Two years ago, there was controversy when the Bears headed through the southwest tunnel for Drew’s pre-game instructions while the Jayhawk starters were introduced.

“We’ll be on the floor (tonight),” Drew said. “We’d had never done that if we had known it would draw so much attention because the attention should be on the game. We were doing that so we could communicate what we wanted to do at the beginning of the game, but by no means did we want to be disrespectful so we won’t be doing that again.”
