Douglas County Community Foundation has announced eight groups received a total of $20,000 in grants to preserve nature and educate others about the environment.

• Lawrence-Douglas County Planning and Development Services will use the grant to help fund countywide bikeway planning.

• Prairie Moon Waldorf School received funds to build a greenhouse.

• The Lawrence Arts Center will work with teachers to create instructional materials that integrate environmental science with art.

• Ecumenical Christian Ministries will finish the boardwalk at the Haskell wetlands, and sponsor a film and discussion series called Journey of the Universe.

• Sancta Maria School in Eudora will offer students opportunities to study the natural habitat of the Wakarusa River.

• The Grassland Heritage Foundation will expand its annual Purple Loosestrife Eradication Day.

• The Black Jack Battlefield Trust will install trail markers and educational signs along nature trails.

• The Kansas Land Trust will upgrade presentation tools used to educate landowners about preservation.

The grants are from the Elizabeth Schultz Environmental Fund.
