Gary Bedore’s KU basketball notebook: Travis Releford OK after shoulder stinger

? KU junior Travis Releford hurt his shoulder in the second half. He left the game for a minute or so before returning.

“I went body-to-body with one of their players. It was a stinger,” he said. “I got it checked and went right back in.”

Flagrant foul: Jordan Juenemann clipped James Fraschilla with an elbow late in the game. Juenemann was whistled for a flagrant foul. Juenemann was not ejected from the game by the refs, but Self removed the senior guard from the contest.

KU’s Oklahoma pros can’t attend: Former KU and Free State High guard Brady Morningstar, who is a first-year player with the NBA Development League’s Tulsa 66ers, had a home game against Maine on Saturday, thus was unable to attend the KU-OU contest in nearby Norman.

Morningstar, who has started eight of 14 games, averages 11.3 points, 2.3 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 30.5 minutes per outing.

Overall, he has hit 57 of 141 shots for 40.4 percent. He’s made 12 of 37 threes for 32.4 percent. He’s also cashed 32 of 37 free throws for 86.5 percent.

Former KU big men Cole Aldrich and Nick Collison of the Oklahoma City Thunder also were not able to attend the KU game.

The Thunder, who had a home game against Houston on Friday, played at Houston on Saturday night.

Veteran Collison is averaging 5.6 points and 3.5 rebounds while logging an average of 19.9 minutes in eight games. Second-year pro Aldrich has averaged 4.0 minutes a game in four games. He has scored two points and has three boards total.

Tubbs in the house: Former OU coach Billy Tubbs attended and spoke to the fans before the game.

“Sooner nation: Let’s be loud today. Are you ready? Lights, please,” he said as the arena lights were darkened for introductions.

Producing points: Future KU guard Conner Frankamp exploded for 47 points in Wichita North’s 61-56 overtime victory over Wichita South on Friday.
