• On March 14, Lawrence Medical Managers, a group for health care administrators, employees and managers will host a lunch seminar on “Healthcare: Where Are We? Where Are We Going?” The event, which is open to the public, will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Maceli’s, 1031 N.H., and will include lunch. Kansas Insurance Commissioner Sandy Praeger, will discuss the latest in health care reform and how it may affect Lawrence families and local businesses and organizations, and what Kansans should expect. • Ann Lopez has joined Health Care Access Clinic as the premier social worker/patient navigator. Lopez received a bachelor’s of social welfare at Daemen College in Amherst, N.Y., in December 1998. She moved to Lawrence and earned a master’s degree in social work with a focus in health care and gerontology. Lopez, who has provided mental health services in Douglas County through individual and group therapy, is licensed at the clinical level in Kansas and Missouri.
• Judy Bellome, chief executive officer for Douglas County Visiting Nurses, recently attended the National Home Care and Hospice Strategic Planning Congress meeting in Orlando, Fla. The two-day conference was a planning meeting for 200 invited guests to discuss issues and develop strategies to address challenges facing home health, hospice and private duty care.
• Celebration Party Rentals Inc. has opened a showroom in the historic 500 Locust Building in North Lawrence. The company has been in business for 25 years in Kansas City, and its local showroom will serve Lawrence, Topeka and eastern Johnson County. • The Lawrence Chamber of Commerce is hosting a second “Eggs and Issues” session of the 2012 legislative session. Local legislators will participate.
