25 years ago: Local chef competes for national recipe prize

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Feb. 26, 1987:

Lawrence cook Frank Carey, representing the state of Kansas, was planning to take his “Chicken Bombay” recipe to the 37th National Chicken Cooking Contest in May. The 51 contestants, one from each state and the District of Columbia, were vying for a $10,000 first prize.

The 53 members of the Old West Lawrence Political Action Committee had announced their endorsements for the city commission election. Dennis Constance, Henry Johns, Mike Rundle and Bob Schumm had been chosen.
