Veritas boys win in tourney

? Andrew Currier hit a game-winning three-pointer at the buzzer after making a steal, and Veritas Christian defeated Topeka Cair Paravel, 38-36, on Thursday in the KCAA boys basketball tournament.

The Eagles trailed by 10 points in the third quarter and were still down one point when Cair Paravel tried to inbound the ball under its own basket with two seconds remaining. Cair Paravel fumbled the ball, Currier grabbed it and hit the game-winner.

Elijah Penny led the Eagles with 16 points, followed by Currier with 10 and Thomas Bachert with nine.

Veritas (14-8) will play Wichita Sunrise in the semifinals at 4 p.m. today.
