Lawrence man, 28, indicted on federal gun charge
A federal grand jury in Kansas City, Kan., has indicted a 28-year-old Lawrence man on a federal gun charge, according to U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom’s office.
Eric A. Reed Jr. is charged with unlawful possession of a firearm after having a felony conviction. Reed was arrested early on Dec. 9 near 15th and Iowa streets and accused of firing a gun from a vehicle outside Taste Lounge, Bar and Grill, 804 W. 24th St. He was charged in Douglas County District Court with aggravated assault and criminal possession of a firearm. According to the indictment, he was convicted in 2008 in Douglas County for attempted criminal possession of a firearm and cocaine possession.
Douglas County prosecutors dropped their charges so federal authorities could pursue a case. Reed faces a maximum of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine on the federal charge.
