3 car break-ins reported at KU Park and Ride lot on West Campus

Kansas University police officers have taken reports of three Wednesday break-ins of vehicles parked in the KU Park and Ride lot on West Campus.

Assistant chief Chris Keary said in each of the three crimes a suspect broke a window in a vehicle and removed items.

The first one occurred between 8:45 a.m. and 4 p.m. Wednesday and involved a loss of $340. The second was between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., as a suspect broke the window and stole the victim’s purse for a total loss of $662. In the third, suspects broke a window and stole $200 worth of items, including a purse and camera. Keary said the victim estimated the broken window was valued at $2,000.

The break-ins were reported in the lot in the 2000 block of Constant Avenue.

“Generally, it’s always best to protect your property by not leaving it in the car or covering it up,” Keary said.
