A former supervisor for the Topeka and Shawnee County Library is one of three finalists for the director position of the Lawrence Public Library.

Bradley Allen will be in Lawrence on Tuesday to interview for the Lawrence Public Library’s top management spot, and to speak with community stakeholders. Allen also will participate in a public forum at 3 p.m. on Tuesday at the library’s auditorium where he’ll speak on the future of libraries and take questions from the public.

Allen is branch manager and programming coordinator for the Everett Public Library in Everett, Wash., a town of about 100,000 people north of Seattle.

From 2006 to 2010, Allen served as the adult services supervisor for the Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library. Allen has ties to Lawrence. He received his undergraduate degree from Kansas University in 1997. He also has a masters of library and information science from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, and a masters of Afro-American Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Allen will be the second of three finalists to interview for the position. Last week, Sarah Tansley, a branch manager in Chicago’s public library system interviewed and gave a public presentation.

The third candidate — officials haven’t released the name — is scheduled to interview and give a public presentation at 3 p.m. on Feb. 28 at the library.
