Charlotte, N.C. ? Kansas University’s softball team won both ends of a doubleheader at the Charlotte Classic on Saturday, extending its win streak to seven games.

Freshman Alicia Pille (4-2) shut out Stony Brook, 2-0 in the morning game. Pille allowed just two hits and one walk while striking out 11.

“Pille came out strong, stayed strong and had a lot more control over her pitches,” KU coach Megan Smith said. “She really worked to dominate hitters and had a lot of poise out there all game.”

The Jayhawks came back from a 3-0 first-inning deficit to score five runs in the fourth and beat Middle Tennessee State, 6-3, in the afternoon game. Sophomore Ashley Newman jump-started the KU offense with a triple. Junior Maggie Hull drove in Newman for Kansas’ first run of the game.

“To come out and be down three, that kind of knocked the wind out of our sails, and then Ashley came up and got that triple. That got us started,” Smith said. “I knew when that happened — and our team knew, too — that we were coming back. Then Maggie Hull comes up with that double; that told me that we were going to come back.”

The Jayhawks (7-2) will play their last game at the Classic today. The opponent and game time are to be announced.
