City swimmers advance at state

? Free State’s Ben Sloan and Canaan Campbell qualified for a pair of individual championship-heat finals, and Lawrence High’s Zach Andregg matched the feat after the preliminary round of the Class 6A state swimming and diving meet on Friday at Capitol Federal Natatorium.

Sloan qualified third in the 200 individual medley in 1:57.57 and second in the 100 butterfly (51.44). Campbell qualified seventh in the 200 free (1:48.67) and fifth in the 500 free (4:53.09). Andregg qualified third in the 50 free (21.85) and second in the 500 free (4:45.05).

The city’s only other individual qualifier was Connor Munk, who qualified ninth in the 100 back in 56.65.

And Free State’s Dan Krieger was 13th in diving with 325.70 points.

The finals will be held at 3 p.m. today.
