Two people were taken to the hospital after an accident Wednesday morning north of Lawrence in Jefferson County, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

According to the accident report, at 11:12 a.m. on U.S. Highway 24-59, Maria L. Gilbert, 26, of Leavenworth, attempted to pass another westbound vehicle that was making a left turn at the Douglas County line. The vehicles collided and then entered a ditch nearby.

Gilbert and one passenger, James Walls, 22, of Leavenworth, were taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital, according to the report. Walls was treated and released, an LMH spokeswoman said. Information about Gilbert’s condition was not available.

No one else was taken to the hospital, including the driver of the turning vehicle, James Blair, 53, of Independence, Mo.
