40 years ago: KU reaches agreement with ‘February Sisters’

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Feb. 5, 1972:

An understanding had been reached earlier today between Kansas University and a group of women called the “February Sisters” after the group ended their peaceful 13-hour sit-in at the East Asian Studies Center. The women were expressing satisfaction after discussions between their representatives and KU Chancellor Laurence Chalmers and the University Senate Executive Committee (SenEx). “We feel of the six demands, we obtained one — a woman we endorse and support will chair the affirmative action program. Furthermore, a day care center and a women’s health center are receiving serious consideration,” a group representative said.
