Prosecutors plan to drop charges against man, 45, accused of threatening neighbors

Douglas County prosecutors are planning to drop charges against a 45-year-old Lawrence man accused of threatening his neighbors during a November incident in the 1300 block of Ohio Street.

Shawn David Headrick had been charged with aggravated assault, criminal damage and disorderly conduct.

Police said Headrick’s 23-year-old neighbor called officers about 11 p.m. Nov. 30. The male neighbor alleged Headrick was yelling and hitting his door. After the man opened the door, he also alleged Headrick threatened to hurt him and his girlfriend.

Police said neighbors claimed Headrick told them he had a gun, but it later was determined he had a hammer. No one was injured.

District Attorney Charles Branson said prosecutors have not been able to locate the neighbors who have moved. Prosecutors are seeking to have the charges dismissed without prejudice meaning they could be refiled.
