25 years ago: County nursing home to raise daily rates

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Dec. 30, 1987:

The Douglas County Commission announced this week that basic room rates at Valleyview Care Home would be raised on Feb. 1 to balance fees paid by Medicaid and private-pay residents. Medicaid had been paying close to $41 per day since Oct. 1. Commissioners approved an increase in the rate for a private room from $44 to $46 per day, semiprivate room from $39 to $41, and four-bed ward from $36 to $41. The commission also approved an increase in incontinent patient rates from $1 to $4 per day to cover the cost of supplies, and a new $1 per day fee would be charged to residents needing additional supervision. Valleyview was also to stop distributing basic supplies, such as antacids, analgesics, and laxatives, to private-paying residents at no charge. Those residents would not have to order those items along with their prescriptions, according to facility administrator Faye McAfee.
