25 years ago: Riverside development in early planning stages

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Dec. 20, 1987:

Plans were in the preliminary stages to turn the old mill buildings along the Kansas River into a new development for restaurant dining, entertainment, and specialty retail shopping. Myles Schachter, a member of Lawrence’s Downtown Improvement Committee, said today that the plans, which were still in the very early stages, would involve renovating about 100,000 square feet of buildings owned by the Bowersock Mills & Power Co. The development would not include the hydroelectric power plant at the west end of the complex.
