City signs off on Black Hills project to install meter-reading poles across city

City commissioners on Tuesday expressed no objections to Black Hills Energy moving ahead with a project to begin installing 30-foot poles across the city for a wireless meter-reading program.

Black Hills plans to install 29 of the poles at various locations in the city, with all of the poles being placed either on public rights-of-way or property owned by Black Hills.

The poles will house an antenna that will allow the natural gas company to read meters at houses and businesses remotely.

The company already has filed permits to begin construction on the poles, and work is expected to begin soon.
