Veritas girls basketball routs Manhattan CHIEF, 42-22

? Veritas Christian School overcame a slow start and claimed high school girls basketball victory, 42-22, against Manhattan CHIEF on Saturday night.

The Eagles trailed 13-7 after one quarter but outscored Manhattan 35-9 over the final three periods.

“Our shots really didn’t fall that well,” Veritas coach Kevin Shelton said. “They jumped out to an early lead, and we challenged our girls to really tighten up their defense. I was real happy with our defensive effort, after that first quarter especially. It was a good win for us.”

Naomi Hickman scored 11 points to lead Veritas, followed by Alison Dover with 10 and Kristen Finger with nine.

Veritas outrebounded Manhattan 34-12. Dover pulled down nine rebounds, and Finger had seven rebounds.

Veritas (5-1) will play Friday night against Olathe Christian in Lenexa.
