Ex-KU assistant Ed Warinner honored

Ed Warinner, Mark Mangino’s offensive coordinator during Todd Reesing’s three years as Kansas University’s starting quarterback, including the 12-1 Orange Bowl season, was named by ESPN.com as the Big Ten assistant coach of the year.

Warinner is offensive-line coach and co-offensive coordinator under head coach Urban Meyer at Ohio State.

Wrote Adam Rittenberg of ESPN.com: Warinner took an underachieving Buckeyes offensive line with serious depth questions and turned it into quite possibly the best line in the league. The Buckeye’s front five turned a corner in Big Ten play and created lanes for Braxton Miller, Carlos Hyde and the Big Ten’s top scoring offense. Warinner was the Big Ten’s best assistant hire of the last offseason and earns our vote as the league’s top assistant in 2012.

Warinner also earned a national award as the 2012 FootballScoop Offensive Line Coach of the Year.
