Aquahawks openings: The Lawrence Aquahawks swimming team is always accepting new members. The Aquahawks are a year-round USA Swimming-sponsored competitive swim team. Five Tool league: Teams interested in playing in the Five Tool Softball league for teams 16U and under during the 2013 summer should contact Steve Seratte at 760-1446. The league is looking primarily for tournament teams.

Basketball academy: The Reign Basketball Academy, designed for ages 7-17, is Lawrence’s newest basketball-specific training. The academy offers 1-on-1 and group training. Holiday hoops clinic: Coach Bonnie Henrickson and the Kansas University women’s basketball team will be conducting its annual Holiday Hoops Clinic from noon-2 p.m. on Dec. 30 in Allen Fieldhouse. The clinic is open to girls and boys in kindergarten through eighth grade. The cost is $15 per child and $5 per participating adult. All children registered for the clinic will receive a voucher for three tickets to one of the upcoming KU women’s basketball games: Kansas State (Jan. 2), Baylor (Jan. 13) or Texas (Jan. 23). Winter Baseball Academy: Free State and Lawrence high schools will be hosting their winter baseball academy again this year. Players grades K-8 will have the opportunity to work on defense, pitching, catching and hitting Sunday evenings at LHS and Free State. Dates are Jan. 13, 20 and 27 and Feb. 10, 17 and 24. LHS Girls Basketball Alumni Night: All former Lawrence High girls basketball players are invited to participate in Alumni Scrimmage Night taking at 6 p.m., Dec. 20 at the LHS main gym. Reaney records: Notre Dame’s Emma Reaney, a Lawrence High graduate, was named Big East swimming and diving athlete of the week for the fifth time in her career after a monster weekend. A sophomore, Reaney won three events — the 200 IM, 100 breast and 200 breast — at the Ohio State Invitational. She set Irish records in the 100 and 200 breast and 400 IM and lowered her own 200 IM record. She also swam on the record-setting 400 medley relay team.
